MUSIC
CERDDORIAETH
A level music is a development of GCSE. On this course you will continue to develop your musical understanding of a
broad range of musical styles ranging from Monteverdi to Van Morrison, Dowland to Debussy and Bach to The Beatles.
The course splits exactly the same way as GCSE – 30% performance, 30% composition and 40% appraising. At A2
students can choose whether they want to follow a performance or composing based route, and the weightings of the
marks will reflect this.
Option A: allows learners to specialise in Performing: 22% of Unit 4 (performing) will be allocated to performing and
14% of Unit 5 will be allocated to composing.
Option B: allows learners to specialise in Composing: 22% of Unit 5 will be allocated to composing and 14% of Unit 4
will be allocated to performing.
Performance
AS: Students perform a 6 – 8 minute recital of grade 5 standard music.
A2: Students perform a 10 – 12 minute recital of grade 6 standard music.
