Healthy Eating

SNAG – School Nutrition Action Group

The SNAG comprises a group of students who are working on raising students' awareness on the importance of healthy eating and exercise as part of a healthy lifestyle.

Healthy eating has been proven to have an impact on students' effort, behaviour and attainment in school.

At Chepstow School we believe that eating healthily should be as normal as coming to school and should not be seen as a chore, hence we have established this team.

So far we have:

  • Organised a Healthy Eating Day which was so successful it even received a Tweet from the king of healthy eating, Jamie Oliver!

  • Organised a poster competition

  • been influential in obtaining the new catering contract for the school

  • liaised between the parents and the canteen to establish procedures requested by parents, such as menus on the website

  • provided parents with strategies for dealing with fussy eaters, or healthy cooking on a budget

  • provided information to parents on the importance of healthy eating and ideas for creating varied and tasty packed lunches

  • encouraged the school caterers to provide delicious samples for visitors on Open Evening

  • grown our own fruit and vegetables (seeds kindly donated by Chepstow Garden Centre) in the vegetable garden, which have then been used in Food Technology lessons

We are hoping to organise another healthy eating day so suggestions for activities are welcomed!
